Hamilton is sweeping the nation and we’re obsessed! Have you been inspired by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s masterpiece as much as we’ve been? This June 20th-29th, Playmakers introduces a new workshop intensive in which we will take a closer look at the new Broadway smash hit. Students will have the opportunity to discuss their observations of the show and analyze the elements that make it a successful piece of concept theatre. Once we’ve pin-pointed what those elements are, students will explore them through their own voices to devise their own original pieces of theatre based on real history. They will work in groups to write, direct, and star in a performance piece representative of a fully realized show, much like Miranda’s Hamilton Mixtape. Students will have the opportunity to work with LSU theatre professors as well as local spoken word artists to bring their own visions to the stage. This opportunity is ideal for Playmakers students and junior counselors looking for an entirely new summer camp experience.
